Tony A. Russ

“COACH” TONY RUSS, age 75, born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 13, 1948, to the late Anton and Antonia Russ (nee Tekaucic). Tony is survived by his wife, of nearly 50 years, Ginny (nee Hudak); brothers, Tim (Judy) and Bob (Gloria); sister-in-laws, Kathy (Bob) Mirguet, Mary (Ed) Tyla and brother-in-law, Tom (Terri) Hudak. He was the fun uncle of 10 and great uncle of 7, and he helped thousands of boys become Men of Benedictine. Tony was a 1966 graduate of Benedictine High School and a 1970 graduate of the University of Cincinnati. He worked at Benedictine High School for 44 years as a teacher, coach, Dean of Students and Athletic Director. Tony was the Defensive Coordinator for Coach Augie Bossu’s football teams and helped bring the school (6) State Championships between 1973 and 2004. Tony, along with his wife Ginny, volunteered at the Cleveland Animal Protective League in various capacities. His sudden death leaves many with large holes in their hearts. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Andrew Abbey, Benedictine Order of Cleveland, 2900 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Cleveland, OH 44104 on Wednesday, July 10 at 12 NOON with a visitation from 11 A.M. until time of Mass. A Celebration of Life reception is to follow in the school cafeteria. Interment to take place at a later date.
