Michael G. Kerchenski Sr., age 69, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on December 11, 2023. He was born on September 11, 1954, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cleveland, OH. Family was at the center of Mike's life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda (nee Klatka), and their cherished children, Mike Jr. (Jenny Hammond), Paul (Christy Lynch), Julia, and Jenna. Mike was also a beloved grandfather to Ila, Ryan, Janie, Lindy, and Jamie – the joy of his life. Mike's family extended beyond his immediate household. He was the son of Ralph and Blanche Kerchenski, and he is preceded in death by them. Mike was a loving brother to Mark Kerchenski (Pam Geho), Tom Kerchenski (Debbie McFarland), Tim Kerchenski (Patti Fazzio), and half-brother to Chris (Heidi Chanson). His family ties were strong, and he leaves behind many nieces and nephews, who will continue to cherish his memory. Mike's heart was as immense as his love for family and community. His passion for baseball was evident throughout his life. From playing the sport as a child to coaching his own kids, Mike's love for the game was unwavering. He even played softball as an adult, ensuring he never missed a game and fostering a love for the sport in the next generation. Beyond the baseball field, Mike found joy in working outdoors. His big orange Kubota tractor was a familiar sight around his neighborhood, as he tirelessly maintained his yard and freely offered his assistance to neighbors. On Halloween, he could be spotted driving around, pulling a hay wagon full of excited neighborhood kids from house to house, creating cherished memories for all. Mike's generosity knew no bounds. Always ready to lend a helping hand, he mowed neighbors' lawns when they could not, embodying the spirit of community. His inclusivity extended beyond the immediate neighborhood, as he welcomed every child into his yard for sports and sled riding, creating a space of warmth and camaraderie. A man of unparalleled kindness, Mike had a heart that overflowed with compassion. He never turned away from anyone in need, exemplifying the true meaning of generosity. His happiest moments were spent sharing what he had with others, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. It would have been two years this January since Mike started his battle with pancreatic cancer, and he faced it with strength and grace. Despite the challenges, he found joy in the precious moments spent with friends and family during those years. Even in the face of illness, he made sure to express his love, saying "I love you" over and over. His resilience and love are a testament to the remarkable person he was. A celebration of Michael G. Kerchenski Sr.'s life will be held at Centerville Mills Dining Hall (8558 Crackel Rd, Chagrin Falls) on January 20 from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Taussig Cancer Center at the Cleveland Clinic, reflecting Mike's lifelong commitment to helping others. Mike will be dearly missed but forever remembered for the love and joy he brought to the lives of those around him. May he rest in peace. (St. John Funeral Home, Bainbridge Township, 440-708-1855)
