Marc R. Vernick

Marc Richard Vernick, age 55, a baptized, cherished child of our Heavenly Father, peacefully passed away after a 4-year battle with cancer on Thursday, November 16th, in Cleveland, Ohio.  He was the beloved son of Linda (nee Bauer), and the late Reverend Roger Vernick, brother of Kristyn Barbara Prochaska (late John), and Elizabeth Corinne Baroody (Ted); uncle to Samuel (Aubrey), Jonathan “Jack”, Matthew, and James Prochaska; and is survived by many family members and friends. Marc was a longtime member of the UA Local 174 Pipefitters based in West Michigan. He loved his work and traveled throughout the country with his beloved dog Tank, working as a superintendent and project manager in nuclear power.  Much to his family’s chagrin, Marc became a diehard Steelers fan, even serving as president of his local Steelers fan club in Grand Rapids, Michigan and after a 20 year wait, finally became a season ticket holder. Marc never missed a chance to be with friends and was usually the one making everyone laugh. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a sharp wit, and was a great storyteller. Wherever he was, Marc developed a strong circle of friends, and he maintained those friendships throughout his life.  In December 2019, Marc was diagnosed with cancer and was told he had ‘weeks to months’ to live. By God’s grace, he went on to live life, go back to work, and travel to see his beloved Steelers.  Despite his long battle, Marc never wavered in his faith in Christ, and he was confident in the promises of eternity with his Lord.  He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Aurora, Ohio where Reverend Powell Woods served him faithfully during his illness. While his family and friends grieve his loss, we are comforted by Psalm 116:15 “Precious in the site of the Lord is the death of His saints”.  Friends will be received at ST. JOHN FUNERAL HOME, 16381 CHILLICOTHE RD. (RT. 306), CHAGRIN FALLS, 44023 (2.5 MILES NORTH OF RT. 422), SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 19 FROM 3 – 7 P.M.  Service to follow on Monday, November 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 37728 Euclid Ave., Willoughby, OH 44094 at 12:00 p.m. with a visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. up to time of service.
