Hubert J. Phelan

HUBERT J. PHELAN, age 85 of Aurora passed away on September 8, 2023, surrounded by friends and family, following an extended illness with Parkinson’s disease. Beloved husband of Ann (nee Brunton) for 62 years; loving father of Bruce (Anne Marie), and Bryan (Michelle); dearest grandfather of Brendan, Matthew, Caitlin, and Jim; dear brother of Nancy Zavatchen, William (Aimee) Phelan, and Rita (Mark) Smith; cherished son of the late William and Anna Marie (nee Petrosky) Phelan; uncle to many nieces and nephews. Hubert, fondly known as Hugh, was born to William James and Anna Marie Phelan, on November 21, 1937, in Smock, Pennsylvania. He was a talented high school athlete excelling in football while playing for Uniontown High School.  Following high school, Hugh served in the United States Army.  After the U.S. Army, he returned to Pennsylvania and began an over 40-year career in sales and business development.  He was most notably recognized for his success in medical, surgical, and orthopedic equipment sales with the 3M company in Cleveland.  His successful sales career and work ethic served to shape the careers of his two sons.  Hugh was a dedicated and loving husband to Ann.  He was also a committed father – coaching baseball teams, hunting and fishing trips, family vacations and boating on Lake Erie.  Family and friends will be received at ST JOHN FUNERAL HOME, 16381 CHILLICOTHE ROAD, BAINBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, 44023, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 20 FROM 3 – 7 P.M. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 21 at Pioneer Presbyterian Church, 35100 Solon Road, Solon, 44139 at 11 A.M. Reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org) or the American Parkinson’s Disease Association at apda@apdaparkinson.org
