Gertrude "Gert" A. Klingmann

Gertrude Klingmann (nee Schasel) of Aurora, passed away on January 14, 2025 at the age of 92, after a brief and sudden illness. She was born to Christian and Agnes Schasel in Buffalo, NY. Gert was a National Honor Student who remained creative and industrious her entire life. She was an avid seamstress and gardener and had an incredible green thumb. Gert was always up for any adventure. She and Kurt travelled to Hawaii and Europe and took extended motorcycle trips across the US. She and Kurt retired to North Carolina, where they were active members of two sailing clubs and two dance/social clubs. She loved to entertain at home, and had a way of making ordinary things beautiful, with her loving touch.

Gert developed short term memory loss after spine surgery in 2016, and moved back to Ohio to be close to family. Despite her health challenges, her personality remained as always – witty, funny and kind. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.

Gert was a devoted and loving wife of 71 years to Kurt who passed away in May of 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents Christian and Agnes Schasel; her son Karl; and her siblings Florence (Wally) Korona, Albert (Deanna) Schasel, and Robert Schasel. She was the loving and devoted mother of her surviving children Robert (Anne) Klingmann, Kurt Klingmann Jr., and Pamela (Rob) Cicigoi. Gert is also survived by her siblings Margaret “Marge” (Gary) Shoenthal, Martin (Diane) Schasel, Richard (Carol) Schasel and Stella “Babe” (Don) Lee; grandchildren Karl II, Kristopher, Michael and Jennifer Klingmann-Echols, and Laura and Daniel Cicigoi; and great-Grandmother to ten, with another expected in May.

The family would like to acknowledge the thoughtful and loving caregivers at The Atrium of Anna Maria. Gert was fond of many of you, and you helped make her last years rich with fun and joyful experiences – she especially enjoyed the field trips for ice cream!
