GEORGE M. GREGUS, age 87, passed peacefully on December 21, 2018, ready to spend his first Christmas in heaven. George was born in Cleveland, OH to Michael and Anna (nee Kubanda) Gregus on February 22, 1931. He is survived by the love of his life for 60 years, Carol Ann (nee Rohman); his two sons, Michael (JoEllen) and James (Robyn); five beloved grandchildren, Kevin, Meghan (Ian), Danny (Brittany), Kayleen, Travis (Melinda) Moyers; great granddaughter, Avery Moyers; sister, Dorothy Dunsworth and many nieces and nephews. He was “dad” and “grandpa” to many. He is preceded in death by his sister, Caroline “Butch” Szydlowski and his two brothers-in-law, Jimmy Dunsworth and John Szydlowski. George graduated from Benedictine High School. He joined the Army earning the rank of Staff Sargent. He served in the Korean War where he received a purple heart, bronze star and the combat infantry badge. He was an active member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Our Lady of Hope Seniors, Knights of Columbus, American Legion #306, Cleveland Umpires Association and First Catholic Slovak Association. Friends received at the ST. JOHN FUNERAL HOME, 923 BROADWAY AVE., BEDFORD, (ONE MILE WEST OF THE FORBES-BROADWAY EXIT OF I-271), WEDNESDAY, 4 – 7 P.M. where prayers will be held Thursday, December 27 at 9:30 A.M. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Hope Church, Bedford at 10:00 A.M. Burial Friday, December 28 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, OH at 10 A.M. (PLEASE MEET AT CEMETERY). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110.
