Emmett E. (Major) Eagan, Jr. died peacefully, surrounded by family on Saturday, November 19, 2022. Major is survived by his loving sister, Kathleen Wheelock, and three daughters, Tara Strachan (Mitch), Sabrina (John), and Karenna Glover (Eddie), and four adored grandchildren, Matthew, Madeleine, Charlie, and Claire. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Jean Michele (Chelie) Sacco Eagan.
Born to Emmett and Virginia Eagan, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Major attended St. Lawrence University, then earned a Master's degree in teaching from New York University, and a law degree from Case Western Reserve University. Major was a corporate attorney with Ernst & Young before he retired to enjoy time with family, with friends on the tennis court, and volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the American Red Cross, and Hillcrest Hospital. He was a consummate learner, constantly reading books and articles, mastering investment strategies, and keeping up with the latest technology tools and gadgets – and ice cream flavors! Major will be remembered as kind, gracious, wise, smart, ambitious, and loyal. He was deeply devoted to his family, and a dear friend to many. As one friend noted, “there will never be another Major, that's for sure.” Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Dominic Church, 9000 Van Aken Blvd, Shaker Heights, OH on Friday, November 25 at 2:00 P.M. The Mass will be available to watch via livestream at: www.stdominicchurch.net/worship/livestream. Reception at the church to follow Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Meals on Wheels (Chagrin Falls) or Hillcrest Hospital. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Hamlet at Chagrin Falls, the Cleveland Clinic, and Hillcrest Hospital for the exceptional care they provided Major this past year. This exceptional care allowed him to live his last days with the respect, dignity, and humor that he enjoyed throughout his life. (St. John Funeral Home, Bainbridge Twp. 440-708-1855).
