Elizabeth “Carey” Smith-Wilson, age 73, from Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Passed away on August 11, 2024. She is survived by her husband Scott Wilson; step-daughters Kelly (Chris) Wilson and Alaina (Lynda) Wilson; sister Virginia Smith-Kallay (Keith Kallay); brothers Joseph Tate Smith (JoAnn Dunn Smith) and Davis Waterworth Smith (Darlene Smith); nieces and nephews Jonathan, Timothy, and Andrew Kallay, Olivia Smith Shahamat, and Katherine, Robert and Joseph Smith; and great nieces and nephews Everly and Emmett Kallay and Finn Shahamat.
Carey majored in Elementary Education at Mount Union College but then went into retail with the Higbee Co. in Cleveland for ten years. She then used her retail background to partner with her friend Lisa Goretta to open and operate The Paddock Saddlery for twenty-five years where she learned about saddle fitting and repairs. Her passion for riding and showing horses was always a part of her life and led her to working for Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center as an instructor and outreach specialist. She also incorporated her skills at saddle fitting on their thirty-five therapy horses. She was an active member with the Northern Ohio Dressage Association and was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for her work there.
Her other passions were hiking and bird watching in the beautiful Geauga Park System or just walking her beloved Corgi, Duncan.
Services will be held at a later date at Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center.
In lieu of flowers donations to Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center would be appreciated www.FieldstoneFarm.org.
