Catherine Veronica Schiffbauer passed away with family by her side on December 8, 2019. Born to Elizabeth Barbus Janosik and Andrew Janosik on June 16, 1929, in Hopwood, PA, Catherine was the youngest of eight children.

Catherine loved her “homeplace” of Hopwood, PA, and graduated as salutatorian from Hopwood High School in 1947. She enjoyed telling stories of growing up on the farm and meeting her husband Robert “Bob” Schiffbauer at the skating rink. They married three years later in 1951, and after Bob served in the Army as a paratrooper, they moved to Bedford where he worked and retired from Ford. Catherine worked throughout the years at Bell, May Company, survey work and Big Lots in addition to her job at home raising four kids who dearly loved their mom. She and Bob enjoyed their two trips to Hawaii and annual trip to PA with their camper in tow.

Catherine, more affectionately known as “Mom,” “Grandma” and “Mima,” loved to garden, bake and cook. Her family has many fond memories of the goodies she made for them with love. Her hands were no stranger to hard work and long days of caring for her family, but they were always soft when they held your hand in comfort or reassurance.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Bob; her children: Bobby (Diane) Schiffbauer, Bruce (Lynn) Schiffbauer, Brian (Laura) Schiffbauer, and Brenda (David) Sablotny; grandchildren Sara, Brian, Jr. (Jordan), Stephanie, Mike, Anna, Jay, Elizabeth (Melissa), Steven (Jamie), and Joseph, great grandchild Brynn; and numerous other beloved nieces and nephews. She was dearly loved and her sweet smile is missed already.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 pm on Thursday, December 12 at St. John Funeral Home in Bedford, OH. A funeral mass will take place 11 am on Friday, December 13 at St. Martin of Tours in Maple Heights, OH. The graveside service is 1:30 pm Saturday, December 14 at Mount St. Macrina in Uniontown, PA. Arrangements are by St. John Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the caring staff of Marymount Hospital Intensive Care Unit and Brentwood Health Care Center for their kindness and diligent care. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to one of the charities Catherine supported, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the USO, or a cause near to your heart.
