Alan Martell, age 90, of Bainbridge Twp, passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 1. His loving family has no doubt that upon entering heaven, he was welcomed by his beautiful wife of almost 50 years, Margaret Ann Martell (nee Barriball), siblings, Francis Martell Haskins, Fred , Gene, Gary Martell, and his many friends and neighbors. Alan is survived by his daughter, Karen McCune (Gene), sons, Timothy and Alan; grandchildren, Kate Bores (Jeff), Kimberly Gibson (Jimmy), Tim Martell, Taylor Mae, Amber Martell; 7 great grandchildren; brother, Richard Martell, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Alan was born May 19, 1932 to Howard and Rose Martell in Grand Isle, Vermont. He grew up in the Chagrin Valley and was a 1948 graduate of Newbury High School. After graduation, Alan proudly enlisted in the United States Army serving several years in Germany. Upon returning home to his “sweetheart”, they built their home on Haskins Road where he and “Margie” both resided and raised their family until their passings. Alan was known for his strong work ethic and passion for quality. He owned Martell Tile & Plastering and one could often hear him proudly exclaim, “See that house?!? I plastered it!” Throughout the years, Alan enjoyed visits with his family and friends, playing golf, his morning “McDonald’s Crew” breakfasts, and meeting his buddies for a cold one at the Eagles Club.
A private graveside burial will be held Friday, February 10. In lieu of flowers, the family simply asks that you show a kind gesture to make someone smile, just like Alan always did. (St. John Funeral Home of Bainbridge Twp., 440-708-1855).
