Joe started his life in the coal mines of Pennsylvania at an early age. During the Korean Conflict in the early 1950’s he joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. After 4 years he returned home and played some semi-pro football for the Cleveland Bulldogs but because of family obligations he gave up his dream and worked for the US Steelworkers for the next 25 years. Always an active man, not only was he a Committeeman at US Steel but served in his hometown of Bedford as a Councilman for 15 years where he started the Food Bank program. He also owned his own business as a concrete contractor until his full retirement. He belonged to VFW Post 1082 and the Bedford Eagles. The family would like to express their gratitude to Crossroads Hospice for their exceptional care of our Dad. Friends received at the ST. JOHN FUNERAL HOME, 923 BROADWAY, BEDFORD (ONE MILE WEST OF FORBES-BROADWAY EXIT OF I-271) SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 5 from 2 – 6 P.M. where services will be held Monday November 6 at 11:00 A.M. followed by burial at Bedford Cemetery.
